Spicy Subscriptions July 2013

Hey everyone!

I decided to check out a subscription service called Spicy Subscriptions. They send a package each month filled with products designed to "spice up your love life". You can choose between a premium box for $24.95 a month or a deluxe box for $34.95 a month. I decided to go for it and try out the deluxe box.

When I got my box it was so full! Everything barely fit inside. Also, it was delivered inside of a plastic wrapping that was very discrete (so no worries about neighbors snooping into what kind of packages you're getting). :)

So let's take a look at what came in my box:

Everyone Loves a Happy Penis Massage Cream in the flavor Big Banana
Comfortably Numb Deep Throat Spray in Mint Chocolate
G-Spot Tickler Vibe
Coochy Shave Creme (Unscented)
JO Personal Lubricant for Women
Swipes Lovin Wipes

Everyone Loves a Happy Penis Massage Cream in the flavor Big Banana
This is probably my favorite item in the whole box! It's a massage cream that tastes just like banana Laffy Taffy. Mmm... :) Also, the name and packaging made me laugh so much when I first saw it. I immediately sent a picture to my best friend (she also ordered a box and got this in a mint flavor).

Comfortably Numb Deep Throat Spray in Mint Chocolate
I'm not sure how I feel about this product. I tried it out and while it did numb my throat a little bit, it wasn't really all that effective. This does taste pretty good though. I thought it was funny that the box recommends carrying it with you to use as a breath freshener. Right....because I'm going to carry a bottle that says "Deep Throat Spray" on it in big, bold, white letters. Lol. I guess I'm just not much of a throat spray kind of person.

G-Spot Tickler Vibe
My first reaction was "WOW! That is quite the curve!". Lol! I was actually a bit intimidated. I won't go into detail here but this is actually a pretty good product. I'm glad to have received it in this box because I probably never would have bought it on my own.

Coochy Shave Creme (Unscented)
I am absolutely in love with this product! It's a very moisturizing shave cream and it works fantastically! Normally, I hate shaving creams. I had never found one that I liked before this. At first I felt a little let down when I opened my box and saw shaving cream but I decided to make the best of it and try it out. As soon as I did I fell in love with this! I am thrilled to have been introduced to this product.

JO Personal Lubricant for Women
and
Swipes Lovin Wipes

These were little foil packet samples that were included in the box. I haven't tried them out yet but look forward to doing so. One is a lubricant (that I've heard good things about) and the other is a feminine hygiene wipe. I've heard of those before but never tried any so that will be interesting.

Overall, I really liked this box a lot. I feel like I got my moneys worth and I think that it's great to find two new products that I love. Also, the CS for this company is fantastic! I contacted them with a few questions and always heard back within a few days with very helpful answers. I can't wait to receive my next box in August!

If you would like to subscribe to Spicy Subscriptions you can get a 5% discount and help me out a little by using my subscription code: Melanie7665. Thank you very much in advance if you do!

The Jungle Stand Taste Bar June 2013

I received my first Taste Bar from The Jungle Stand recently! This service sends out a box each month with 6 different tastes based off of a theme.

Inside the box was six samples of different foods and a pack of crackers to cleanse your palate between tastes.

The information sheet

This month's theme was Welcome to Taiwan. It included 6 different foods from Taiwan and other nearby countries. Included in the box was:

Sachima
Rice Crackers
Sesame Pastry
Squid
Pumpkin Cake
Peanut Brittle

I gathered together my tasting crew (a.k.a. My brother Nick and boyfriend Dave) and we decided to jump right into it.

Sachima
Located at the top left of the box.
Sachima is a caramel dessert. It was interesting to try because when i first took a bite, it was very similar to a rice cake in texture but then it became softer and chewier. It had a very light taste. Everyone enjoyed it and it was my favorite taste in the box.

Rice Crackers
Located at the top middle of the box.
This was my brother's favorite taste. It had a Styrofoam consistency with a very sweet first taste (because it was dusted with sugar). I thought it had a strange aftertaste so I was not a big fan of this.

Sesame Pastry
Located at the top right of the box.
My boyfriend loved this! It also had a Styrofoam consistency but was coated in a layer of sesame seeds. I liked this more than the rice crackers but it still wasn't something I could see myself eating all the time.

Squid
Located at the bottom right of the box.
I was most nervous to try this! I had eaten squid in the past with my best friend Kelly but we both hated it! When I last had it, it smelled awful and tasted very strongly like fish. This was better than that (it was probably a better quality) but I still didn't like it. It comes in strips that are comparable to the texture of beef jerky but taste vaguely like fish. It wasn't horrible but not good either.

Pumpkin Cake
Located at the bottom middle of the box.
I wasn't expecting to like this because it seemed like a strange taste combination to have pumpkin and seaweed but it was so yummy! I really enjoyed this a lot.  It was light but had many layers and was a bit tough. It tasted like pumpkin with a hint of salt.

Peanut Brittle
Located at the bottom right of the box.
This was awesome! Not like any peanut brittle I've had before. It was VERY heavy and hard. It tasted less sweet than most peanut brittles (which I liked!). It tasted just like normal peanuts. I could see myself getting more of this to snack on.

I had a great time trying all these different foods and tasting new flavors and textures that I've never experienced before. I look forward to the upcoming months to see what they come up with next!

Birchbox June 2013

My June Birchbox came!

This month has been my favorite so far!! I love everything in the box.
Included was:

Birchbox + Color Club Wanderlust Nail Polish in Reign in Spain
Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Mirenesse Glossy Kiss Lipstick in Perfect Kiss
suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser
100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream in Vanilla Bean and Coconut

Birchbox + Color Club Wanderlust Nail Polish in Reign in Spain

This nail polish is so bright! It looks neon in bright light and like it's glowing in dim light. I didn't think I would like this at first because I don't usually wear coral color nail polishes but I was very pleasantly surprised. The first coat goes on extremely streaky (worse than any nail polish I've ever used before) but it evens out very nicely with a second coat.

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk

I don't really have too much to say about this one. Dry shampoos never work for me. I have thick, wavy hair so it's hard to work it through my hair and then even when I do, I never see any difference. If anything, I think that dry shampoos make my hair even greasier! This does smell significantly better than other products I've tried though. This really is not a bad review on the product, it just didn't work for me specifically (and I honestly wasn't expecting it to).

Mirenesse Glossy Kiss Lipstick in Perfect Kiss

I love this! It's actually become one of my favorite products and I carry it around in my purse all the time now. The color is gorgeous and it has a nice shine to it. The only downside to this is that it doesn't have great staying power.

suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser

This cleanser is lemongrass scented and it smells so good I just want to eat it! Lol! It leaves my face feeling very clean but not dried out. I think I will definitely be purchasing a full size of this!

100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream in Vanilla Bean and Coconut

I haven't tried the coconut lotion yet but I did try the vanilla bean. It smells heavenly and absorbs quickly. This is important to me because I hate having greasy lotiony hands after putting on lotion. This absorbed and left a nice light scent on my skin. It's a bummer that the sample sizes were so small (about the size of a ketchup packet). But it is nice that they sent two different scents to try and I think that if they were bigger sizes then we would have only received one scent.

Bonus Postcards

Birchbox also sent out postcards based off of their global offices. I think they're very cute and I've seen that some people framed them to make a wall decoration. I think I'll do that as well. :)

Ipsy June 2013

It took forever but I finally got my Ipsy GlamBag! The bag for this month is so adorable!

Inside my bag was:

JCat Sparkling Cream Palette in Suzie
NYX Cream Blush in Glow
Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter
Starlooks Lip Liner in Tipsy
Cailyn Gel Eyeliner in Purple

At first I was really disappointed when I saw what items I would be getting this month. I don't normally use blush or lip liners and, from what I had read online, the glitter palette would be basically unusable (it was described as being like coarse glitter in Vaseline, ick). When I received my bag and actually saw the items I started feeling a bit better about it. I decided to try some of them out. The result:
I used the Tipsy lip liner over my whole lip, the Glow blush, the highlighter on my waterline and the inside corners of my eyes, and a rosy-gold glitter on my eyelid.
Overall, I actually liked everything that came in my bag. It was a lot easier to work with then I thought it would be. The theme for this month was Wild so I was a little nervous that everything in the bag would not be good for day to day wear. I'll have to create a more wild look sometime soon. :)

Now, on to the individual items:

JCat Sparkling Cream Palette in Suzie
This is absolutely gorgeous to look at! It comes with little eyeshadow applicators that work alright for getting it out of the pan. It's a bit difficult to work with because it tends to come out in big chunks. Also, after putting this on my eyes, it didn't ever fully dry. It felt sticky and wiped off it anything so much as slightly touched it. It did look pretty but I think if I ever wore it out it would be smudged everywhere by the end of the night.

NYX Cream Blush in Glow
I really like the color of this blush. It gives me a natural pretty glow (guess the name fits it well. Lol).

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter
Normally I wear white eyeliner to emphasize my eyes so it was a nice change to try out something different. This is a nude color that highlights my eyes rather well. It worked okay over the rest of my face but I don't think it's very noticeable. I think I'm too pale for most highlighters.

Starlooks Lip Liner in Tipsy

This lip liner is a pretty coral color. The only downside is that it's EXTREMELY bright (bordering on looking clownish). I applied it lightly and it came out looking very nice though. I've only recently begun getting into more lip products so this definitely put me out of my comfort zone. I'm glad I tried it because it's something I would have never bought on my own and I ended up liking it a lot.

Cailyn Gel Eyeliner in Purple

I don't really have much to say about this product because I will be trading it for the same thing but it the color Iron. I just received a purple gel liner from Beauty Army this month so I wasn't overly thrilled to get a second one. I didn't swatch this (for obvious reasons) but it looks very pretty in the container. I think the design of the bottle is a cute idea. I like that a brush is included.

I'm very happy with my bag this month and look forward to seeing what's to come for July!

Birchbox May 2013

Hello!

I know this is a bit late because it's June but better late than never, right?

In my May Birchbox I received:

Devacurl 3-Step System
Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner
Coola Classic SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face
Marvis Toothpaste
Pilot Corporation of America Acroball PureWhite (Pen)

The theme for the month was Beauty Diaries. So they sent a card to fill out about my beauty routine. You can tweet your response to Birchbox for a chance to win a full size version of everything in your box.

Now, on to the goodies!

Devacurl 3-Step System

The packets that came in this were MASSIVE! Definitely enough for multiple uses. Sadly, I was not a big fan of these. I really loved the shampoo but the conditioner didn't feel like it did anything special for my hair and the gel just made my hair feel thick and very sticky.

Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner (in Saletii)

My eyeliner I received was Saletii, a charcoal grey. I absolutely love this! It goes on smooth, is smudgable, and has amazing staying power! Normally, I don't use pencil eyeliners because I have issues with it fading or smearing everywhere but this one stays looking great all day. One of my new favorites.

Coola Classic SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face

I was not a fan of this. It smelled a little strange but not in a terrible way. It smelled like cucumber mixed with coconut (the cucumber scent was much more strong though). The problem I had with this was that it made my face look greasy. At first, I put it on along with another moisturizer (because I was overexcited and didn't read that it was a moisturizer on the tube. Oops) and that just made my face look like an oil slick. After I realized my mistake, I tried it by itself but my face still looked oily (and it's not normally like that). This might work well for people with dry skin but doesn't work for me.

Marvis Toothpaste

A lot of people were complaining about receiving toothpaste as a sample in their Birchboxes but I was extremely happy! I had seen Marvis toothpaste at Sephora in the past and was curious about trying it out. Imagine my excitement when I opened up my box and saw this! I tried it out and it tasted very minty and refreshing. The bottle is also very cute. I'm not sure that this is worth the price so I don't know if I would buy it again but it was fun to try it out.

Pilot Corporation of America Acroball PureWhite (Pen)
For me, this was the biggest letdown in the box. I received a pen that writes in light blue ink. I really don't like pens that write in weird colors (especially not light colors). I guess it's not the worst thing I could have received but it was not my favorite either. It writes smooth and the color is okay but it's hard for me to get excited about a pen.

So that was the contents of my May Birchbox. Overall, it wasn't a bad month. I would probably give it a B. The sample sizes were good and I was at least slightly interested in almost all the items in the box. Hopefully next month will be even better!

Finals Week Already??

Hello!

I haven't posted anything in awhile because it's *gasp* finals week next week! I've been going crazy trying to finish up projects, write papers, and get some studying in. On the bright side, soon I'll be able to get some much needed relaxation in and some more posts up ;)

Wish me luck!
